A New, Greener Day: The Next Generation of Enterprise Green Communities

 

With a national call to action and a $4 billion commitment, the next generation of Enterprise Green Communities launched in Washington, D.C. See highlights of the historic day featuring Enterprise leadership plus leading public and private partners, including HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, Home Depot Foundation President Kelly Caffarelli, Kresge Foundation President and CEO Rip Rapson, and U.S. Green Building Council Senior Vice President Roger Platt. Enterprise's Green Communities: Making Every Day Earth Day
On Friday, April 17, 2009, Enterprise joined its partners the National Housing Trust-Enterprise Preservation Corporation (NHT/Enterprise) and Hampstead Development Group as well as residents, neighbors, elected officials and community developers to celebrate the grand reopening of R Street Apartments, a newly renovated, green affordable housing development in the Washington, D.C., neighborhood of Logan Circle. Brooklyn Family Thrives in Affordable Housing
Raising five children is no easy task, but one that is exponentially harder without a safe, affordable home. The Gonzalez family, like 50% of NY City families, could not pay the median market-rate rent for a 2-bedroom apartment. Enterprise helped purchase the Gonzalez's building, so that all of its occupants could afford to stay in their homes, and focus on providing their children with solid foundations. Watch the Video.

From Sleeping on Broadway to Performing on Broadway
Formerly homeless Joseph F. Cunningham found permanent, supportive housing at Hill House in New York City. Enterprise Community Partners has created thousands of homes for people like Joseph, because building safe, affordable homes is one of the most effective ways to reduce homelessness. Enterprise Addresses Foreclosure Crisis
As part of its 38th Annual Legislative Conference, on Thursday, September 25, the Congressional Black Caucus held a town hall meeting on the foreclosure crisis. Enterprise Vice President of Public Policy Ali Solis joined Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), NeighborWorks President Ken Wade and other concerned leaders to discuss and answer questions regarding the current economic crisis and examine the national and regional repercussions. Edward Norton Testifies on Capitol Hill
Actor, director and Enterprise Community Partners Trustee Edward Norton testified on May 14, 2008 on Capitol Hill, urging lawmakers to put opportunities for low-income people at the forefront of the nation's response to the climate-change crisis. Watch the Video.

U.S. House Passes Historic Green Affordable Housing Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the landmark HOPE VI Improvement and Reauthorization Act. The bill marks the first time lawmakers have authorized holistic environmental principles in a major housing program. The Gotham City Gala is an annual event that supports Enterprise’s work to build decent, affordable housing for New York’s lowest income residents.

2009 Gala: Leading the Way Home
At Enterprise, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to rise up and out of poverty, and that a safe, healthy, and affordable home is the foundation for building a successful life. In the last 22 years, Enterprise has invested more than $2 billion to create affordable homes for more than 100,000 people throughout New York City more money invested, and more homes created, than any other organization. 2007 Gala: "This Is My Home" Youth Video Competition
Megan Santos of the Bronx, 17, was the winner of the "This Is My Home" video competition. Megan worked with Enterprise New York's creative partners, Mammalfish, to produce a professional version of her video, which premiered at the Gotham City Gala on December 11, 2007. Watch the video.

2006 Gala: Reflections of Home
