Overview
T he Faith-Based Development Initiative (FBDI) is a collaboration of Enterprise Community Partners, East of the River Clergy-Police-Community Partnership and Georgetown University.

By December 2012, the initiative will:

  • Create 434 new units of affordable housing
  • Support 45 faith partners with housing and community development projects

Training
The Initiative provides regular development process trainings for the faith community. These may include nuts-and-bolts of development, public and private financing, organizational development, and risk management.

Capital
Enterprise is committed to provide capital resources assist the faith community through grants, loans, and tax credits.

  • Predevelopment Grant: This grant of up to $10,000 with a 25 percent match helps faith-based organizations defray early development costs.
  • Community Loan Products: Enterprise's lending experts provide developers with
    innovative short-term loan products.
  • Multifamily Mortgage Finance: Enterprise offers competitive long-term mortgage loans for new construction and rehabilitation for affordable and market-rate multifamily housing.
  • Tax Credits: Enterprise is one of the leading providers of Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity in the country and is one of the largest allocatees of New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC).

Technical Assistance
We provide basic feasibility analysis, which includes a community profile, zoning and market analysis. We connect faith-based leaders with development experts

Partnership with the Pro Bono Legal Programs
The DC Bar Pro Bono Program and the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service volunteer their services to the faith community throughout the development process, as do legal clinics in Washington, D.C., including American University Washington College of Law; Georgetown Washington Law School; Georgetown Law School; and David A. Clarke School of Law at the University of the District of Columbia.
