Vista Nueva Apartments in Los Angeles, an award-winning project developed by A Community of Friends with support from Enterprise distinguished by its striking architecture affordability and comprehensive array of services designed to support t
he needs of the formery homeless families who reside there. Women who have been diagnosed as mentally ill and their children occupy the majority of the 30 apartments.
The services provided at Vista Nueva support the family unit as a whole. An onsite child care facility occupies space on the ground floor along with a computer classroom, a community room and office space. Common areas and outdoor areas give residents a sense of community and security.
By keeping rents affordable (residents pay 30 percent of their income) and providing free child careVista Nueva helps adult residents focus on rehabilitation and self sufficiency. All adult residents participate in the community by working for wages, attending school or volunteering in the building or in the neighborhood.
