07/27/2010 - Multifamily Weatherization: Working with Your Local Provider
The U.S. Department of Energy has made $5 billion available for energy efficiency improvements – enough to weatherize 650,000 housing units – through the ARRA Weatherization Assistance Program. Property owners can qualify for up to $6,500 per unit for eligible properties. Funds are only available through March 2012. How can you take advantage of this program to improve your affordable housing properties? Enterprise, the National Housing Trust and local weatherization providers who are serving multifamily rentals will help you learn how to find a provider in your area and apply for services, and will share multifamily weatherization project successes. You'll also learn about the latest developments of the HUD-DOE Weatherization Assistance Program interagency partnership and promising state agency strategies for increasing multifamily weatherization.

Sponsored by E*Trade Financial and presented by Enterprise’s Foreclosure Response Initiative, this event is the first in a 4-part series focusing on comprehensive neighborhood stabilization. This first event explores two examples of local programs that have used the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) as an opportunity to incorporate a comprehensive green strategy into the acquired foreclosed homes, and how other local programs can implement similar green strategies into their acquisition/rehabilitation programs.

In partnership with the MetLife Foundation, Enterprise offers the MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing. For 15 years, the awards have recognized organizations that demonstrate leadership, innovation, effectiveness and quality operations and services delivery in affordable housing. Since 1996, the program has awarded 85 organizations more than $1.6 million in funding. This year’s awards will focus on the best in green senior housing and services. This Live Online Event covers award eligibility and criteria, application elements and requirements, and the online application submission process.
04/14/2010 - Making Affordable Housing at Transit a Reality: Best Practices in Transit Agency Joint Development
FRESC: Good Jobs, Strong Communities and Enterprise researched transit agency approaches to affordability in joint development in 24 cities in the U.S. This session summarizes the resulting report, including the best practices and outcomes among these agencies.
This session focuses on strategies for improving ventilation in multifamily buildings. Two leading experts, Terry Brennan of Camroden Associates and Marc Zuluaga of Steven Winter Associates, describe key steps in diagnosing existing ventilation systems to determine if the systems are providing healthy living environments and, if not, what approaches can help improve and fix the systems.
Enterprise's "Green Asset Management Toolkit for Multifamily Housing" is designed for owners, asset managers and property management staff. The Toolkit includes holistic approaches to managing and improving the performance of an existing building, including those that were not constructed to be green. This session covers the structure and key elements of the Green Asset Management Toolkit. Attendees also hear from a Boston-based affordable housing developer that has incorporated comprehensive green practices into its asset management approach.
This session includes discussion of the Enterprise Green Communities’ certification process as well as a demonstration of the current requirements for the two-step online certification submittal and review. Future plans for the refinement of the certification process moving forward arel also presented.
From the onset of Green Communities, Enterprise set out to measure the effectiveness of the Criteria in delivering health, economic and environmental benefits. The results of this analysis are documented in a new report, Incremental Cost, Measurable Savings: Enterprise Green Communities Criteria, a first-of-its-kind study showing the cost effectiveness of meeting Enterprise Green Communities Criteria.This session reviews report findings and lessons learned from properties designed and built to the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria.
Designed for those with little or no experience using the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, this short course provides a basic overview of tax credit financing and how the credit works. Participants will be guided through a case study that will highlight aspects of the decision-making processes involved with, and the utility of, the LITHC.
